Aiwa Pooamorn

Aiwa Pooamorn is a Thai-Chinese mother, award-winning poet and performer. She was runner-up at the YWCA Auckland Spoken Word Competition (2018) and finalist for the Going West Poetry Slam (2018). She performed her poetry for Alice Canton’s OTHER [Chinese] at Q theatre (2017), Barbarian Production’s Grand Opening at the Civic (2018), bared all for The Plastic Orgasm by Virginia Frankovich and Julia Croft (2018). Aiwa co-created Go Home Curry Muncha (2018, 2019) with fellow performance poet Gemishka Chetty, their show has been part of the Performance Arcade on the Wellington waterfront, Auckland Fringe Festival at Basement Theatre and Whau Arts Festival at Blockhouse Bay Boat Club. Aiwa and Gemishka also worked on an art installation and performance art piece titled Have You Ever Been With An Asian Woman Before? for First Thursdays on K rd.  Aiwa's poetry has been published in Landfall (2018), Jacket 2 (2019),  Poetry in Multicultural Oceania Book Three (2019) and zines by Migrant Zine Collective.
