Bobbie Gray

Bobbie Gray is an Auckland-based artist whose work explores the tension between the natural environment and mediated reality, along with an ongoing investigation surrounding the nature of perception.

Bobbie completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design in 2017. Bobbie was awarded a Highly Commended for her submission ‘Resident Alien’ in the 2017 Eden Arts Art School Awards, of which her work “Upward Fall” is now part of the Wallace Arts Trust collection. Since graduating Bobbie founded Comet Project Space, which she facilitates and co-curates alongside Alicia Taylor.

Bobbie is a multi-disciplinary artist, with an interest in Biophilia, humankind’s innate tendency to seek connections with nature and forms of life, and a fascination with Biomorphism, contoured, patterned or textured arrangements that persist in nature. She therefore seeks out and explores materials that can mimic life-like processes, meaning control is relinquished, and the forms of the work develop organically. With these forms, Bobbie is particularly interested in the intersection between attraction and repulsion and the simultaneous pull of these elements.
