Ekaterina Dimieva

Ekaterina’s work focuses on exploring imaginary and invented worlds, hypothetical realities and parallel realms suggested as alternatives to our surrounding environment. It asks questions such as “How do abstract processes give rise to real world images, in particular images describing a place or a space?” and “What are the different dimensions and facets of what we perceive to be reality, and the various ways of viewing the world we live in?”.

Ekaterina was born in Bulgaria and moved to New Zealand in 2001. She is currently studying MFA at Elam.  She was a finalist in the RT Nelson Emerging Artist Award 2019, winner of the Gordon Harris MFA Student Award 2018 and Ekaterina’s work is included in the The James Wallace Arts Trust Collection.
