Emma Paton is an Auckland based artist whose paintings explore the delicate balance between irregular and regular. In her painting, Tessellation 3, Paton tips her hat to Bauhaus textiles and the modernist preoccupation with counterpoint and polyphony in music. In the same way as several musical notes sounded simultaneously create a chord, her work employs a variety of visual processes that modify and restrain each other.
