Karen Sewell
IN PARADISE

Karen Sewell’s In Paradise body of work seeks to critique specific forces of power and control pervasive in our contemporary society - including consumer culture and materialism which entice with empty promises.
The work offers an invitation to rest and play and contemplate, to resist being co-opted by the empire, and the courage to step out from within its grasp. Sewell’s desire is to re-imagine the world as one where social justice, fair-trade and care of the planet prevail, and from this standpoint create spaces that can be enjoyed and experienced as counter-imperial alternatives that stir hope.
In Paradise is offered as an installation to engage with, you are welcome to sit on the wooden base of the palm, feel the fabric and textures of the sculptural elements. Relax and rest in the bean bags.
