Natasha Wong is an Auckland based artist who specialises in painting

stylised portraits of modern Alternative musicians. She graduated in 2014

with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) degree, majoring in Painting at the

University of Canterbury. Natasha moved to Auckland in 2017 and produces

artwork in a shared studio space in the CBD.

Currently Natasha experiments with the abstraction of the faces of musicians

to remove them from their identities and create visual illusions. The portraits

remain distinguishable as faces, though divided and arranged in various

sequences to confuse the eye. Her paintings represent personal icons and

aim to portray them as cryptic images; primarily influenced by visual

elements portrayed in Byzantine art and altarpieces as well as Andy Warhol’s silk screened portraits of celebrities.
