Nathan Joe

Nathan Joe is a Christchurch-based playwright who often travels to Auckland for projects. He won the Playmarket b425 award in 2015 for Hippolytus Veiled and in 2016 for Like Sex. He has also been granted development for his plays through Playmarket’s Asian Ink programme on three occasions (2013, 2014, 2018). Recent highlights include: award-winning Auckland Fringe show I am Rachel Chu and performing as part of Auckland Writers Festival. Outside of playwriting, he is also an active theatre critic at theatrescenes.co.nz and was previously the theatre editor at The Lumière Reader. As a dramaturg he has worked with the likes of Proudly Asian Theatre, Auckland Theatre Company, Atawhai festival, and queer short play festival Legacy Projecy.
