Shelley Ashford

Shelley Ashford is an Auckland born artist. Her need to make and understand art have led her to many short courses which increased her appetite to learn more. She graduated from Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design in 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Her photobooks investigate existential questions of who we are, when neurologically we are, and what we think we are. The narrative photobooks she creates explored the psychology and philosophies of memory, archiving, alternative perspectives and remembrance. Being able to hold something tangible in your hand, to feel and to connect physically with an object which is difficult to do with digitisation and social media’s hands-off approach to connection.
