Statement
Kōwhai Grove reimagines a downtown Tauranga public space, harmonizing with its natural surroundings. It aims to create an inviting hub for the local community and visitors in Grey Street arcade. This installation invites viewers to
connect with nature’s rejuvenation, symbolised by our
native kōwhai tree, while highlighting the vastness of the plastic problem.
Crafted from repurposed plastic bottles, Kōwhai Grove is a large-scale light-based artwork created with the enthusiastic participation of the local Bay of Plenty community. It serves as a powerful reminder of our environmental impact, diverting thousands of single-use plastics from landfills. Through this piece, we hope to inspire a reconsideration of consumption habits.
